Martinhal Beach Resort, Portugal

[all photos via Martinhal Beach Resort]

Where has the summer gone? Despite my best efforts, I've only had one beach day all season, and the jellyfish in Israel tried their damnedest to ruin even that. Now that we're midway though August, work seems to get in the way of every sun-soaked opportunity, and I find myself envying Europeans who get to spend the whole month en vacances while the rest of us swelter in the city.

The French Riviera or the Greek Isles would do just fine, of course, but the Algarve Coast of Portugal jumped to the top of my dream destination list once I saw photos of the Martinhal Beach Resort. Located within a protected national park near the fishing port of Sagres, the design of the place is one part minimalist modern, one part pure luxury, all with a nod to midcentury design. In other words, it's right up my alley.

Perhaps because the resort encompasses so many properties (a hotel, houses, villas), I can't seem to pin down an architect for this project. Does anyone know?

  1. Work definitely gets in the way of every sun soaked opportunity. I really need to be at that beach resort!

By the way, will be attending IFB or Lucky Fabb this year?

  2. I think I've only had one beach day this year too. Maybe 2, I can't remember. This place looks amazing! Would so rather be there than at my desk right now. Sigh.

  3. No, I decided to sit out this NYFW since I've had such a busy summer. :( Have fun, though! I'll be there in spirit.

Thanks for stopping by Marissa and for your sweet words!  Now this is where I should have been recovering from my surgery!  Oh to lounge about on the beach or by the pool...sounds just heavenly.
I hope you get another beach day and a little time to relax.
    Have a fabulous week,
    Julie

  10. Oh, looks like I have a lot to catch up on over here on your blog. I've always wanted to go to Tel Aviv actually, but we've not made it as of yet. I think the designer was Michael Sodeau for this stunning project.

  11. I just realized I never responded to you. So sorry! Yes, you should definitely go to Tel Aviv someday, just not in the summer! And thanks for the tip abou the designer. I knew he did the interiors, but I wasn't sure about the architecture.

  12. Oh no worries! Well I am not certain who the head designer was, but it's from UK firm Conran. Hope that helps if you haven't already found it. Gorgeous place! xo

  13. Beautiful property. I vacationed in Lagos a few years ago. It was August/September and the weather was gorgeous. The Algarve is such a special place...wish I was there now.
