To Tweet or not to Tweet?

I've been doing my utmost to avoid Twitter. Not because I don't see the value in it, but because I'm reluctant to add yet another social media platform to my life. I have enough trouble keeping up with my RSS feed as it is, not to mention this blog, Facebook and a whole slew of e-newsletters.

Nevertheless, I do think that Twitter is the best way to keep up to the minute when it comes to blogging. Pop-up stores, new design innovations, sample sales - they all seem to be announced first on Twitter, and I think it may be time for me to give in.

I have no doubt that Twitter will provide me with plenty of fodder for The Well-Appointed Catwalk. But I worry about being over-connected. How much time can one devote to the constant stream of news that social media provides? Will Twitter end up replacing my RSS feed and streamlining things, or will I end up sitting in front of my laptop for twice as long each day?

When it comes to a Twitter feed for The Well-Appointed Catwalk, well, that's another story all together. I assume if I go that route, I'll end up tweeting my blog posts and retweeting all the interesting snippets I come across each day but don't have time to write about. Maybe the blog will even pick up a few new followers if I'm lucky.

Please leave me some feedback in the comments. How has Twitter impacted your lives, and what would you like to see in a Twitter feed from The Well-Appointed Catwalk?

Oh, and one final question - why is Justin Bieber always one of the top trending topics on Twitter? How many 13-year-old girls are using this ish?!

  1. I have also avoided twitter. I work full time (way more than a 9-5) and just keeping up with my blog in my free time is demanding, because I also go out with friends, go to the gym, spend time with my husband, etc. I feel like it is just another thing to deal with! I guess I will see how my blog is doing in a few months from now an re-evaluate.

  2. I don't do twitter at all! I just don't see the need. There is already so much going on, I don't need one more thing to check. lol

  4. Sorry I posted my comment re:twitter on the DVF section... but I am all for it. I think it would really help increase your following. Maybe try it out for a few months... see what happens. In any event, with whatever you decide. Good luck.

  5. I don't really know how useful it is, we've had some hits but not loads. But I find it really good for following others and what they have to say, and you can also link your blog so it automatically updates within an hour after you post something.

  6. I avoided Twitter for quite a while...I was a Facebooker. But now I'm the opposite. I've deactivated my Facebook account because I felt like I had no privacy left and I got sick of reading status updates that were sports play-by-plays. I don't miss it a bit in my personal life. I began using Twitter when I started writing for other sites, and for my blog as well, and I love it. I don't follow people on a personal level. I follow my favorite magazines, fashion bloggers, and some local outfits, and I have found it to be very useful for getting real-time scoop on sales, fashion news, etc. I'd say if you want to push your blog, definitely get onto Twitter!
