Rent the Runway Goes Social + a Giveaway

SPONSORED POST

Not long ago, I wrote about the phenomenon of "real people" in fashion campaigns. With brands like J.Crew and Lanvin using ridiculously good-looking people off the street to shill their goods, the non-model as model has already been done to death. But it looks like Rent the Runway just raised the stakes.

With the debut of Our Runway, Rent the Runway has introduced the first-ever online social shopping platform. Instead of relying on non-models who look like models, Our Runway incorporates user-generated photographs of perfectly ordinary women in dresses - bad lighting, photo bombs and all. How has no one thought of this before?

The real benefit of Our Runway is the ability to view dresses on women who share your body type. With the Find Women Like Me tool, just enter your height, bust size, dress size and age. Then sit back and view thousands of women with comparable shapes in dresses available for rent.

In case you've been living under a rock and aren't familiar with Rent the Runway (it has over three million members!), the site lets women experience designer dresses and accessories at just 10 to 15% of the retail price. Choose a style from one of 160+ designers, and Rent the Runway will send you two sizes to try on and borrow for either four or eight days. Then just mail your goods back in the handy pre-paid envelope. Rent the Runway even has on-call stylists to help you shop, and you can book a dress up to six months ahead of time for a special occasion.

To celebrate the launch of Our Runway, Rent the Runway is giving a $100 gift card to one lucky reader of The Well-Appointed Catwalk!

To enter, follow The Well-Appointed Catwalk via RSS reader, email, Facebook or Twitter, and leave a comment below. For extra entries, you can share this giveaway on Facebook and/or Twitter for a maximum of 3 entries per person. Please leave a separate comment for each entry.

I will accept entries through Wednesday, November 8th, and will announce the winner the following day.

But don't worry if you don't win! Rent the Runway is giving all readers of The Well-Appointed Catwalk $25 to spend on your next rental when you sign up here. Enjoy!
