Boston, You're my Home

I grew up in a home where The Boston Globe was on the breakfast table every morning, and I always imagined that if I were to see my name in print there, it would be as a byline. (I knew what I wanted to do from an early age.) But here I am, photo and all, in today's Globe Style magazine.

Writer Marni Katz emailed me one day for a piece she was working on about local style bloggers, and next thing I knew I was posing at a photo shoot with some pretty incredible ladies: Martini of  Beyond Boston Chic, Liana of New Brahmin, Erin of Elements of Style, Zoe of Fashion is Freedom, Emily of So Anthro, and Courtney of Those Graces.

Well, it may not have been quite so easy. I'm clearly not a personal style blogger, and there's a reason for that: I'm entirely uncomfortable in front of the camera. I was in a full-blown panic over what to wear to the shoot when Neiman Marcus came to my rescue and agreed to let me borrow something from the store. After many dressing room failures, the PR director picked out a perfect Rebecca Taylor dress, paired it with a skinny belt, and that was that. So, thank you to Annette and Neiman Marcus for coming to my rescue!

Since there are (hopefully) a few new readers here today who have come over from the Globe, let's keep today's post focused on local design. It's only March, but last week's crazy temperatures (71 in Brookline? What?) have given me spring fashion fever. After the jump, the spring/summer collections of a couple of my favorite Boston designers...

I stepped into Daniela Corte's Newbury St. boutique on Friday, and I feel lucky to have escaped with only a pair of shorts. The entire collection is just that impressive. The tiny Argentinian talent may be known for her bombshell swimwear, but she has truly proven herself in sportswear with spring's drapey silks, lush botanicals and nautical inspiration.

I viewed Emily Muller's latest on the runway at Boston Fashion Week in September, and the breezy ensembles looked just as covetable when I saw them on the rack. Leather detailing adds complexity to throw-on-and-go dresses and reappears on two of my favorite pieces: a sleek, white spring coat and a voluminous silk teal jumpsuit that I would snap up in a heartbeat were I tall enough to pull it off.

  3. Oh, how cool! Congratulations, lady! I wish I could get a copy. I'll have to see if it's hiding around here in CT (no idea what my chances are!). But anyway, the dress is lovely, and you look fantastic - there's no reason to feel uncomfortable at all, you're such a pretty and stylish gal. (:

  32. I can tell you that those of us who didn't go AWOL and flee
to Sweden were turning into a mighty mean, steely-eyed group of
80 pound warriors. The six-kilometer walk to the village and back was filled with clacking bamboo groves, large feathery
ferns, and pungent odors of the jungle hanging here and there.
We also found their pricing to be very competitive with the
    rates of other companies.
