NYC Photo Diary

An indoor stall on the way to Brooklyn Flea

Unlike on my last trip to New York, I remembered my camera this time around! Yep, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. Under the guise of celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, I went down to the City two weekends ago to take in the Savage Beauty exhibit, shop at Brooklyn Flea and meet up with some of my favorite bloggers.

I kid! I'm really not that self-absorbed. I also took the boyfriend to a yummy Italian dinner in SoHo, a performance of Wicked and The Museum of Natural History. Still, he was a good sport about all of the fashion-related activities, and he even put together a GIF from the McQueen exhibit...

But let me start at the beginning. On Saturday, I met up with two amazing blogger friends, Jamillah of made-to-travel and Ashley of Ashley4Emergy. After a bloody-Mary fueled brunch, we headed to the Blogger Closet Raid at the Tribeca Grand, where I purchased a sleeveless vintage blouse and raffia tote ($10 each!) from the adorable Keiko Lynn.

Ashley, Jamillah and I then traipsed around SoHo where we found what may be my favorite store ever.

The Evolution Store is a wild mix of Darwinesque accessories and decor, including all manner of stuffed animals and their skeletons, swoon-worthy jewelry and uh... raccoon penis bones.

Now back to Savage Beauty, The Met's retrospective on Alexander McQueen. Photography was forbidden, but my boyfriend managed to snap a few blurry, clandestine images on his iPhone.

Because we were only in New York for a few days and didn't want to spend hours in line on Sunday, we payed a little extra to see the exhibit on a Monday when the museum is normally closed. If you can go on a weekday, make a point to. Savage Beauty lives up to the hype as haunting and beautiful, but I would have hated to sacrifice any of the experience to unbearable crowds.

I'm off to Montreal tomorrow, and my camera is already packed. Hopefully, I can find something as magnificent to photograph there as raccoon penis bones.
