Local Design Spotlight - Shara Porter

What's better than finding a fantastic, unique vintage bag? Finding a fantastic, unique vintage bag hand-printed by Shara Porter.

I've been meaning to write about Porter since I picked up one of her pieces at the Fort Point warehouse sale a few weeks ago. The local designer scours thrift stores for vintage leather accessories, then cleans them up and stamps them with her signature designs for a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Designs range from birds and bumble bees to wrenches and mac trucks. And the prices are totally reasonable. (Apparently the sample sale bag I bought normally retails for $80 at Habit.)

On her site, Porter says, "I have always liked finding discarded items and seeing their potential with some sort of alteration. I love the hunt- and rescuing items that have been passed along." A woman of my own heart!
