Midweek Covet: Plant-A-Saurus

Plant-A-Saurus by Shelterblack

I know I'm a day past midweek. Just deal with it. This one goes straight in the "Things I Want But Would Never Spend Money On" folder. I normally hate tchotkes, but the Plant-A-Saurus is hard to resist. It also comes in non-metallic neons, but really, why even bother?

I can see this being a very easy DIY project for crafty types (i.e., not me). Otherwise, they're available at Shelterblack for $28.

On another note, I announced the winner of the Margiela for H&M giveaway earlier on Twitter, so congratulations again to Miki Mouse, and a big thank you to everyone who entered!

BG Follies Holiday Windows by Bergdorf Goodman

Acts I, II and III of the BG Follies

The turkey has been sandwiched, the green beans discarded and the pie undeniably devoured, which can only mean one thing: the holiday season is upon us. But while most are stringing lights and topping trees, fashionistas know there's no better signifier of yuletide than department store windows.

And nobody does it better than Bergdorf's. With its BG Follies theme, the store's visual team drew inspiration from classic Art Deco style. Think Ziegfeld Follies, Vaudeville and Busby Berkeley. And the impending Great Gatsby release can't be a coincidence, can it?

Referring to each window as an act of a production, Act I is a riff on Some Like it Hot, featuring the designs of Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Philip Lim and Elie Saab, among others. Act II, is a tribute to Sally Rand and her famous fan dance, incorporating thousands of white feathers in a mosaic-like pattern. Act III, meanwhile, showcases no fewer than two dozen show girls getting ready to take the stage, each represented by a mid-century miniature American mannequin.

Acts IV and V follow after the jump...

I hope everyone Stateside had a happy Thanksgiving! Sorry for the radio silence this week, but between the holiday and celebrating my engagement, things have been hectic in the best way possible. Yes, you heard right... I'm getting married!

While I promise that The Well-Appointed Catwalk will not turn into a wedding blog, I can't help but share a little of my inspiration for the big day with you. After all, I've been spending an inordinate amount of time on Pinterest ever since the proposal.

So, enjoy! Tomorrow I'll be back with the regularly scheduled programming of fashion, architecture and design.

Tomorrow is also the last day to enter to win a Maison Martin Margiela for H&M glove clutch, so you better get on that!

Giveaway: Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

SPONSORED POST

Leather Bag by Maison Martin Margiela for H&M ($149)

Since I have to draw the line somewhere, I've decided that I don't camp out for clothing, no matter how beloved the designer. So, alas, I missed out on last week's collaboration between H&M and Maison Martin Margiela. By the time I got to my local outpost, this quirky little glove clutch was long gone, along with the perspex-heeled booties - the two items on top of my wishlist.

But lucky for you, H&M is giving readers of The Well-Appointed Catwalk one last chance to snag the leather glove clutch in black. To enter to win the clutch, follow The Well-Appointed Catwalk via RSS reader, email, Facebook or Twitter, and leave a comment below. For extra entries, you can share this giveaway on Facebook and/or Twitter for a maximum of 3 entries per person. Please leave a separate comment for each entry.

I will accept entries through the end of Tuesday, November 27, and will announce the winner the following day. As always, the winner will be chosen randomly. Bonne chance!

Gilt Home Collection

Gilt launched it's own collection of home furnishings and accents Thursday to little fanfare, but despite flying under the radar, the offerings are impressive.

Designed by Gilt creative director Tom Delavan, the company's first self-branded line is influenced by his favorite vintage pieces. Top picks include the Hollywood regency-style X-benches and velvet pillows, plus walnut-framed seating and patterned rugs reminiscent of midcentury modern. Best of all, Gilt is promising to donate 20% of the purchase price of each item (up to $10,000) through November 21 to Habitat for Humanity to assist in its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Of course, there's no mention of who manufactures the collection, so it's difficult to gauge the quality. And equally puzzling is the pricing model...

Midweek Covet: Rag & Bone Taj Jacket

Rag & Bone Taj Jacket (available at Net-a-Porter)

I should really be thinking about coats this time of year, not jackets, but I spotted Rag & Bone's Taj Jacket on a recent lunchtime trip to The Tannery and fell head-over-heels in love. With a removable red wool vest over a brown leather underlay, it's two pieces in one and the perfect transitional garment for fall. Now, I just need to bide my time until it goes on sale.

Concrete Genezis by IVANKA

all photos by Balazs Mate [via IVANKA]

First ice, now concrete. Even the most austere materials come to life in the right hands.

IVANKA is a Budapest-based concrete firm that defies the conventions of what is widely viewed as an industrial material. Founded by Katalin and Andras Ivanka in 2002, IVANKA has worked with brands like Liberty London, Levi Strauss, Oakley and Bang&Olufsen to sculpt everything from furniture and facade paneling to loudspeakers and jewelry.

Now, with Concrete Genezis, IVANKA's latest innovation comes in the form of a ready-to-wear and accessories line based on (what else?) concrete.
