Danish Design at the House

[all photos by Lisbeth Grosmann]

Happy birthday, Sydney Opera House! The iconic Down Under landmark turns 40 this fall, and in celebration of its Danish roots (it was designed by architect Jørn Utzon), the Western Foyer is playing host to Danish Design at the House, an exhibition showcasing the best of Danish design, past and present.

Curated by architects Gerard Reinmuth and Karen Kjærsgaard with support from the The Danish Agency for Culture and the Consulate General of Denmark in Sydney, the exhibit touches on six themes that form the foundations of Danish design: "materiality," "craft," "technology," "human," "pragmatism" and "desire." Each theme is displayed in one of the Western Foyer's six bay windows with designs from 25 Danish creative industries, six architects and six artisans.

The exhibit runs through November 11 and is free to the public, so stop by if you're lucky enough to be in the area.
