Met Ball Recap: Head Turners and Head Scratchers

So... the Met Ball happened, and now everyone's talking about Beyonce's dress. Meh. Is that the best you can do, news media? It was a showstopper (for better or for worse), to be sure, but did you see the rest of the red carpet looks?

This isn't a ubiquitous awards show; rarely do the stars play it safe for the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala. This is when they go all-out crazy fashionista on us. So, without further ado, the looks from last night that deserve a double take (again, for better or for worse).

Not-so-mellow-yellow: January Jones in Atelier Versace and Coco Rocha in Vintage Givenchy pull of this hard-to-wear shade with ease.

Good witch, bad witch: Rooney Mara is stunning in goth-like Givenchy Haute Couture, but Mary Kate scares the bejesus out of me in The Row.

Costume Institute or costume party? Giovanna Battaglia and Bianca Brandolini d'Adda, both in Dolce & Gabbana

Simply stunning: Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren and Caroline Trentini in Olivier Theyskens

Much to much: Skin, that is, for Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello. And for Isabeli Fontana in Pucci, there's just too much of everything else.

Quirky couples: The cane makes the outfit for Nicole Miller and Cameron Silver, who wears a custom suit by Miller and carries a vintage Schiaparelli walking stick. On the right is Marc Jacobs wearing lace and pilgrim shoes(!) and Milla Jovovich in Prada.

Va va va volume: Florence Welch in semi-ridiculous McQueen, and Christina Ricci in a dress worthy of Troop Beverly Hills by Thakoon Panichgul

Umm... what? Chloe Sevigny in Miu Mu and Sarah Jessica Parker in Laura Ashely drapes. Oh, I mean Valentino Haute Couture.

Cooler than cool: Ending on a happy note, Hanneli Mustaparta is rocking Calvin Klein. And I have such a girl crush on Stella McCartney and MIA here, both in designs by McCartney.

  5. I'll be honest, I thought I'd be bored reading yet another Met Ball round-up, but girl you had me in stitches with a very refreshing and original post! Thank you!

Yeah, MKO scared the bejesus outta me too! I saw much larger image yesterday morning and was like whoaaaa!  There were some interesting outfits for sure, namely some of the ones above! I also thought Solange looked amazing in Yeloow with simple but awesome accessorizing.
