Weekend Happenings

Summers call for three-day weekends. How else am I supposed to get done all that I need to and make it to the beach? At least I get to see my friends' band, Character Nine, play at Church Saturday night. They're based in New York, so it's kind of a special occasion. And they're damn good musicians, too.

Of course, there are plenty of designy event listings after the jump...

In-jean-ius' Fifth Anniversary Block Party
Thursday, 6-10 PM
441 Hanover Street, North End
In-jean-ius is probably my favorite place to buy denim thanks to their amazing sales help. Looks like the ladies are going all out for the shop's fifth anniversary, with a party featuring North End eats, djs, martinis, giveaways and (best of all) a 25% discount. Don't forget to bring gently used jeans to donate to Rosie's Place! RSVP to alison@injeanius.com.

Room to Grow's Spring Fashion Show
Thursday, 8-10 PM
Liberty Hotel, 215 Charles Street, Beacon Hill
Room to Grow, in partnership with Fashion Boston and local designers, is hosting its third annual spring fashion show to raise awareness and support for babies born into poverty. A $60 donation includes cocktails and light appetizers (and that fuzzy-wuzzy feeling of doing good). Tickets are available for purchase here.

Sew What?!?
Saturday, 3-7 PM
Union Square Plaza, Somerville
With a huge community-wide clothing swap (they're calling it a swap-o-rama-rama), plus DIY workshops and sewing machines on site, you're sure to walk away with some new recycled clothes that actually fit. Artists will be painting during the event, giving you the opportunity to commission something of your very own, and vendors will be selling handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories and home goods.

Tis Tik's Second Anniversary
Saturday, 6-8 PM
54 Church Street, Harvard Square
Perla Brito Cueva's shop, featuring the jewelry designs of little-known Mexican artists, is celebrating its birthday with margaritas and south-of-the-border snacks. Ten pecent of sales during the party go to Roxbury youth group Sociedad Latina.
