Marimekko's Spring 2010 Silkkikuikka Fabric

I've always been inspired by Marimekko's bright patterns, but the Finnish design house's bold aesthetic isn't always easy to use at home.

Not so with the spring 2010 Silkkikuikka fabric by Maija and Kristina Isola. Designers of the popular Unikko print, the Isolas seem to have hit the perfect balance between mod and primitive with this season's colors. (The print itself was first introduced in 1961).

Now I've finally found the perfect fabric for a new duvet cover (if we ever get around to replacing the comforter that's too small for our bed).

The Marimekko concept store in Cambridge (one of only three in the U.S.), is located at 350 Huron Avenue.  Silkkikuikka is also available online through the New York concept store.
